The short version
Your reading is yours. We collect what we need to run Readery (your email for the beta waitlist, your account and reading data once the app opens) and nothing else. We do not sell your data. Ever. You can delete your account and everything in it at any time.
Who we are
Readery is a reading tracker app made by Kelly Staller, based in Parkland, Florida, USA. If you have any question about your data, email hello@readeryapp.com and a real person will answer.
What we collect on this website
Email address — when you join the waitlist. Stored so we can send you an invite when spots open, and nothing else.
Basic analytics — page views, referrer, country (rolled up, not linked to you personally) so we understand how people find Readery.
We do not use cookies for advertising or tracking across other sites.
What we collect in the Readery iOS app
Account — your email and password (encrypted).
Reading data — books you add, statuses, ratings, wrap-ups, notes, highlights, tags, moods, and any other reading-related things you record. It also covers things Readery works out from that reading, like your reading type.
Optional social data — profile display name, avatar, and connections you make with other readers.
Device diagnostics — anonymized crash reports and performance metrics to fix bugs.
How we use your data
Run the app: sync your library across devices, personalize your recommendations, generate your monthly wrap-ups, and describe the kind of reader you are (see Reading types).
Improve Readery: understand which features people love and what's confusing so we can fix it.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. Full stop.
Reading types
Readery describes the kind of reader you are — "The Series-Loving Reader", "The Comfort Reader" — on your profile and on your monthly wrap-ups. The names are written in advance and are the same for every reader. None of them is written about you.
A reading type is built from your own library:
Your books — the ones you have finished, put down, are reading now, or have on your list.
What those books are — length, format, genre, author, publication year, whether they belong to a series, and the dates you finished them, including rereads.
What you recorded — the ratings you gave, the books you marked as favorites, and how many of your books carry notes.
Book tags — mood, tropes, heat level and content notes. These are generated from publishers' public descriptions of the books, not from anything about you.
Your book clubs — whether a book was your club's pick around the time you finished it. Your own membership only, never a club's subject and never another reader's reading.
Reading types do not use your age or date of birth, your display name, photo or bio, any other reader's activity, or the contents of your notes and journal entries. The number of notes on a book is counted; the words are not read by this feature. Notes are stored in our database and can be accessed by Readery when you ask for support or when we investigate a fault. They are never sent to any AI service.
Readery offers you the types your own library supports, and each card lists the books behind it. You choose which one appears on your profile. Reading types are on by default; while they are on, readers you have accepted as friends can see your type on your profile, as they can see your shelf. If you have not chosen one, the type Readery derived from your books is shown.
Reading types can be switched off at any time in Settings. Once off, no reading type of yours appears anywhere — not on your profile, not on your wrap-ups, not to your friends, not to you. A type you had already chosen remains saved on your account, visible to no one, so it is there if you switch back on; "Delete my saved picks" on the same screen removes it permanently. Anything already shared outside the app, such as a screenshot, is beyond our reach.
Third-party services we use
Readery uses a small set of trusted third parties to run the service:
Supabase — hosted database and authentication.
Google Books, Open Library, Hardcover — book cover images and metadata (title, author, description). These services see the book titles you look up.
Google Gemini — analyzes public book descriptions to generate the tag data (tropes, moods, settings). Your personal reading data is never sent to Gemini.
Resend — sends transactional emails.
Apple — App Store distribution and TestFlight beta.
Your rights
You can, at any time:
Access your data — email us and we'll send you an export.
Correct anything wrong — edit in the app, or email us.
Delete your account and all your data — from the app (Profile → Delete Account), or email us and we'll do it manually.
Unsubscribe from any non-essential email — one click at the bottom of every message.
Children
Readery is not directed to children under 13. We don't knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you're a parent and believe your child has given us data, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your data in a way that materially affects you, we'll notify you before the change takes effect. Small edits (typo fixes, clarifications) may happen without notice — the "Last updated" date at the top always reflects the most recent change.
